The Path to Self-Sufficiency

NewLeaf recognizes that securing stable employment and furthering education are essential steps for a returning citizen to achieve lasting independence and break the cycle of recidivism. Given the significant stigma and legal barriers associated with a criminal record, we provide targeted and comprehensive support to help individuals successfully navigate the job market and education system.

Our support focuses on preparing individuals for the workforce through practical training and resource provision. This begins with job-readiness training, where participants learn crucial soft skills, workplace expectations, and professional etiquette. We also offer assistance with resume building, helping returning citizens translate their past experiences, including skills gained during incarceration, into professional, compelling documents that minimize the focus on their criminal record and maximize their marketable abilities.

Furthermore, we actively connect participants with job opportunities. This involves developing relationships with local employers who are willing to hire returning citizens, often referred to as “second-chance employers.” We don’t just point them toward listings; we actively match individuals with suitable positions and provide ongoing mentoring during their initial months of employment to ensure successful integration and retention.
