We believe lasting transformation requires collaboration. That is why NewLeaf is committed to working with churches, prison ministries, halfway houses, probation and parole offices, community centers, and local nonprofits. Through these partnerships, we can reach men and women at every stage of re-entry from inside prison walls to their first day home, and throughout their journey toward independence. - Why This Work Matters
The Scale of the Need
The United States has the highest incarceration rate in the world. Over 1.9 million people are currently incarcerated, and every year more than 600,000 individuals return home from prison. Unfortunately, without proper support, two out of three will be re-arrested within three years of release.
Beyond those currently incarcerated, over 77 million Americans have a criminal record. That means 1 in 3 adults in the United States lives with the lasting stigma of a record facing barriers to employment, housing, and education. These numbers highlight the urgency of creating faith-based, practical solutions that help people truly start over.
This is not just a social crisis, it is a spiritual crisis. Returning citizens often face rejection, isolation, and lack of hope. At NewLeaf, we believe the answer lies in both practical tools and the unshakable foundation of faith. By rooting individuals in God’s truth and surrounding them with community, we help them break cycles of recidivism and step into a restored future.
